Coke Studio Africa is a music television series produced by the Coca-Cola Company featuring live studio-recorded music performances by various artists. The one of a kind music show brings together artists from different genres, eras and regions to create a modern and authentic sound through musical fusion. The purpose of Coke Studio is to reinvent the way music can capture the spirit of a nation, opening hearts and minds, and of course, Happiness.

The concept originated from the Brazilian show Estúdio Coca-Cola which first aired in March 2007. The purpose of the show was to develop an exceptionally different music fusion by bringing together two of Brazil’s top artists with completely opposite musical styles. Drawn by the challenge, Brazil’s top 14 artists came together to create 7 episodes that were aired on MTV and the rest is history.

Coke Studio has been popular, receiving critical acclaim and frequently being rebroadcast on television and radio in Pakistan, India and the Middle East. This year, Coke Studio Africa launches its first season with the aim of uniting artists from across the continent, bridging divides, and celebrating Africa.

Season one features a line-up of legendary African artists including Salif Keita from Mali; King Sunny Ade, MI, Waje, Jimmy Jatt and Bez from Nigeria; Octopizzo, Miss Karun and Just a Band from Kenya; Hip Hop Pantsula, and Tumi from South Africa; Boddhi Satva from the Central African Republic; Diamond Platinumz and Lady Jaydee from Tanzania; Joel Sebunjo, Qwela and Lillian Mbabazi from Uganda; and the Culture Music Club from Zanzibar. The show will also feature some collaborating artists including Kenya’s Bamboo, Harry Kimani, Sage and Dela as well as Kassongo from DRC, and Nigeria’s Temi Dollface.

The show airs in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania & Nigeria, and includes eight 45min shows plus one 2 hour New Year’s Eve special. Each episode will showcase unexpected fusions by various artists as well as a behind the scenes look into their interactions and experiences on set.

Coke Studio Africa invites you to experience the incredible journey to creation of a truly unique and modern African sound.
